About the Artist
Bin Dixon-Ward is a graduate of RMIT, Gold and Silversmithing, has exhibited in Australia, Europe, Japan and North America and is the recipient of several awards for jewellery including the Diana Morgan Post Graduate Award 2016, Itami Award and the Toowoomba Contemporary Wearables 2011 Student Prize. Exhibitions include, Melbourne Now at the NGV, Schmuck, in Munich and A Fine Possession and The Future is Here at the Powerhouse Museum. Her work is in public and private collections including at the NGV, The Powerhouse Museum and Musee des Artes Decoritifs, (The Louvre) Paris as well as the McMillan Collection. Chris Massey trained as an interior designer, moved to Melbourne in 2008 and completed an Advanced Diploma in Engineering Technology (Jewellery, NMIT, 2009) and won the John Lazos Best Design Award. Since then, Massey has added his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Object based Practice at RMIT, exploring consumer (mis)behaviour and narcissism through interactive jewellery works. In 2014 he was the recipient of the Emily Hope Prize for Figurative Work (Acquisitive) for his Celebrity Glow Compact. He is currently studying in London and is due to complete a Masters of Art degree at the Royal College of Art in 2018. [email protected]
Eli Giannini is a well-known Melbourne architect who graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Object Based Practice) at RMIT University. Her practice includes collaborations with Sue Buchanan specializing in site-responsive works and more recently exhibiting in object based shows. Eli’s object based works have been exhibited at & Gallery, 45 Downstairs and First Site Gallery RMIT. She has shown at the 2015 Radiant Pavilion in two group shows and completed an artist residency at the Victorian Tapestry workshop with Sue Buchanan Eli has reviewed contemporary art jewellery shows for Arts Crafts International, Klimt2 and Architecture AU. www.superpleased.com
Jana Roman is an emerging artist having completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours – Gold & Silversmithing) at RMIT in 2014. Recipient of the 2014 Wolf Wennrich Award for Craftsmanship (RMIT), Jana was 2015 co-resident of the Maggie Fairweather Studio at RMIT. Jana has exhibited in the 2015 Galerie Marzee Graduate Exhibition, the Griffith Regional Art Gallery National Contemporary Jewellery Award 2014 and was selected for three consecutive Contemporary Australian Silver & Metalwork Award exhibitions (Castlemaine Art Gallery 2015, Bendigo Art Gallery 2013, and Buda Castlemaine & The Arts Centre Melbourne 2011). Kate Wischusen graduated from a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) Honours, Object based Practice at RMIT in 2014 and creates objects and jewellery that explore the permanence of memory and the role of the souvenir. Working predominantly in mild steel and enamel, Kate’s work references archived markings in the urban landscape and in buildings of personal significance. Katie Collins is a maker of jewellery and objects, based in Melbourne, Australia. Katie is a graduate of RMIT University with a BA in Fine Art (Honours), specialising in Gold and Silversmithing. Her work has been selected for national and international exhibitions, including the Itami International Craft Exhibition, Japan, Mari Funaki Award Exhibition, Australia and Talente, Germany. Lindy McSwan completed a BA (Fine Art) Honours in Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT University in 2014. With the help of an Australia Council for the Arts ArtStart Grant in 2015, Lindy established an independent studio practice taking up residence at 1000 Degrees Glass Studio. In 2016 Lindy’s vessels were included in an exhibition of emerging artists, ‘5 x 7: early career Australian makers’, at Gallery Funaki in Melbourne. Her work has been acquired by the W.E. McMillan Collection, RMIT University and The Bluestone Collection, Melbourne. In late 2017 Lindy will embark on the Bundanon Trust's Artist-in-Residence program in NSW.
Pamela Chan completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with First Class Honours, Gold & Silversmithing at RMIT University (2014). She is currently working from her Collingwood studio where she explores different materials and mediums to create contemporary jewellery and objects. Her work is an exploration in the repetitive and the connection between past and present. Taking inspiration from the natural environment, she explores the essence and fluidity of the brush stroke as a connection to her Chinese background. She has been developing hollow porcelain objects as a canvas for her Chinese brush painting. [email protected]
Sarah Jones is a Hobart based contemporary jeweller, with a BA in Gold and Silversmithing from RMIT University, Melbourne. Sarah’s practice is multi-disciplinary engaged in transformative making and materiality. Exhibitions include West Space, Platform, CCP, Linden, Para/Site Art Space Hong Kong, Annandale Galleries, Centre for Contemporary Photography, and the Ian Potter Gallery. Sarah co-founded West Space Inc. with Brett Jones. Thomas O’Hara began studying Gold and Silversmithing in 2010 at RMIT University Melbourne and completed his Honours there in 2014. After returning to his home town of Canberra, Thomas commenced a PhD at the Australian National University School of Art in 2016. With a trade background as an electrician, Thomas has learnt a controlled systematic way of constructing work. This combined with a strong interest in organic, free formed patterns and objects found in nature, has led to an investigation of objects that play with what is naturally formed and what is constructed
Zoë Veness is a contemporary jeweller and object-maker. Her work has been selected for exhibitions in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Singapore, London, Scotland, Germany, and the USA, and is held in private and public collections including the National Gallery of Australia and the Art Gallery of South Australia. She is the recipient of awards, grants and residencies including an Australian Postgraduate Award in 2011 for PhD research at UNSW Art & Design. In July 2016 Zoë moved from the South Coast of NSW to commence as Lecturer of Object Design at the University of Tasmania in Hobart. [email protected]
