The BOSS – The Best of Student Silversmithing
The BOSS is a curated exhibition of the best of student silversmithing work from Melbourne Polytechnic students. Current students, recent graduates and Alumni from the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design present work that was completed whilst enrolled and undertaking study at Melbourne Polytechnic.
The Silversmithing component of study at Melbourne Polytechnic is scheduled in the first year of the program and is the first time students are encouraged to investigate their own understanding of their practice and how this can be reflected in an object. It is incredibly challenging for many of our students however when guided and supported the results are sophisticated, fresh and well-conceived. The finished pieces reflect an ability to grapple with a connection to metal, metal forming, repetitive loud noise, the tough hand, physical exertion, conceptual practice and modes of representation they never imagined were possible.
