Site 3065 South East Corner is a public Jewellery project situated amongst the street, lanes and or shop fronts of Fitzroy. It draws together a diverse range of works - spatial, participatory, intervention, performance, text, image and object based.

The individual artists’ projects elaborate on methodologies and strategies that have their origins in fine art but are interpreted through a ‘jewellers’ process, history and or discourse.

Their works reflect on jewellery in response to site or situation, or activate public / social spaces. They consider how jewellery as an object, idea or process can form, perform or inform in this public context.

About the Artists

Christine Alberts has been designing jewellery since 1995. After two years studying Jewellery Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Christine made the switch to Graphic Design. She continued to the Typography Workshop Master’s programme at the ArtEZ Academy of Art and Design in Arnhem. Since 2001 she has been working as a graphic designer in partnership with Patrick Coppens as part of the Coppens Alberts bureau.
Alongside graphic design projects for clients in the realms of fashion, architecture, art and theatre, designing jewellery remains an important part of Christine’s practice. www.coppensalberts.nl

For artist jeweller Roseanne Bartley jewellery generates the content, form and methods of her work. Her approach is cross-disciplinary, oblique and speculative, she create things, procedures and experiences through social, performative and object based methods. Bartley has been awarded numerous grants including the Australia Council Barcelona Studio in 2004 and Australia Council New Work Grants in 2001, 2006 and 2012. Her work has been selected for national and international exhibitions, most recently Unexpected Pleasures, NGV and Design Museum, UK (2012-13); Melbourne Now, NGV (2013–14); and Suspended in Green, Vienna and Munich (2014). She is currently enrolled as a PhD candidate in the School of Architecture and Design at RMIT.

Zoe Brand started her professional career selling rather expensive writing instruments and occasionally the odd pencil in her hometown of Brisbane. Needless to say this wasn’t awe inspiring stuff, so in 2005 she moved to Sydney and it was there that she found her calling, the making, wearing and viewing of contemporary art jewellery. Since then she has graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Jewellery and Object Design, worked in galleries, made some jewellery, curated shows, written words and drunk plenty of beer. Zoe is currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) majoring in Gold and Silversmithing at the Australian National University in Canberra. http://www.personalspaceproject.com  

Liesbet Bussche (Antwerp, 1980) is a Belgian artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. She studied Jewellery Design at St Lucas University College of Art & Design Antwerp and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie from where she graduated in 2009. Prior to this, she studied cinematography in Brussels and worked for several years as a television journalist. In her work she is particularly interested in the medium ‘jewellery’ in itself and the position it occupies in the everyday life of its wearers. Susan Cohn is a Melbourne based artist jeweller. Her training in Gold- and Silversmithing was at RMIT in Melbourne, and she holds a PhD in Fine Art Theory from the University of New South Wales. Through her work she explores the typology of jewellery and the different terms on which it is valued. Her work is represented by Anna Schwartz Gallery in Melbourne, and is held in major national and international collections.
Throughout her long career she has done design commissions for Alessi (the Cohncave bowl) and more recently she has curated “Unexpected Pleasures”, a major contemporary jewellery exhibition for the Design Museum London that was also on show at NGV in Melbourne in 2012.

Caz Guiney is a Melbourne based jeweller whose practice engages with public space via gathering evidence; collecting, taking moulds and producing jewellery in response.
As well as making jewellery Guiney investigates alternative sites for placing/exhibiting jewellery in and around the CBD and most recently in her local suburb.
She is a founding member of Northcity4, a recently established not-for-profit organisation in Brunswick encompassing jewellery and object studios and a jewellery teaching program.
Guiney has been the recipient of two New Work Grants from the Visual Art & Crafts Board of the Australia Council (2001 and 2005).  She has held 3 solo exhibitions: Ordinary... Orthodox... Absurd... (1998), Cityring (2003) and Precious Nothing (2008).

Manon van Kouswijk is a Dutch artist jeweller who lives and works in Melbourne. In her work she explores and reinterprets archetypal jewellery forms and motifs through a diverse range of mediums and processes, an exploration that extends to the exhibition site and the artist book as a context for the work.
She studied Visual Art and Contemporary Jewellery at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam where she graduated in 1995. She also worked there as Head of the Jewellery Department from 2007 – 2010 and is currently employed as a coordinator and Lecturer at MADA, Monash Art Design and Architecture in Melbourne. Her works are part of private and public collections worldwide.

Benjamin Lignel first trained in philosophy & literature, then in art history, at New York University, and finally in furniture design, in London: hence his interest in the functional object, complicated by a penchant for art, and further perverted by sustained exposures to literary works, often momentous, sometimes pertinent.
In 2007, he co-founded La Garantie, Association Pour Le Bijou, a French association with a mission to study and promote jewelry. He became a member of Think Tank: A European Initiative for the Applied Arts in 2009. He is also a curator, a writer and currently editor of Art Jewelry Forum, a prolific online contemporary jewellery platform.

Suska Mackert, born 1969 in Munich/Germany,  studied within the jewelry department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (1994-1998) and completed her Masters studies at the Sandberg Instituut in 2000, both in Amsterdam, NL.
Her works are part of private and public collections, including the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim, Germany; Museum of Art Craft, Itami, Japan. In 2010 she was appointed as head of the jewelry department 'Het Sieraad' of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam/NL. Since 2013 she lives and works in Nürnberg, and works as professor at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Klasse für Freie Kunst / Gold-und Silberschmiede, Nürnberg.

Jhana Millers holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Massey University, Wellington, New Zealand and an undergraduate degree in contemporary Jewelelry from Whitireia New Zealand. Jhana has exhibited within the jewellery and fine art realms in New Zealand, Australia and Germany and her practice often includes an interactive or participatory component. She also co-manages and curates at 30upstairs Gallery, Wellington, works as the administrator at the Wellington Sculpture Trust and is a co-manager of The See Here, an artist run window space focussing on contemporary jewellery related practice. jhanamillers.co.nz

 Gisbert Stach studied at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences in Cologne and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He lives and works in Munich, Germany.
His pieces of art are exhibited in international galleries and renowned museums such as the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and are part of public collections. Gisbert Stach's works of art display a great variety ranging from contemporary author's jewellery and experimental silverware to performances, sculptures and video art. He won prestigious prizes such as the Amberif Design Award 2011 and gave workshops at art colleges in Antwerp, Tel Aviv and Beirut. https://gisbertstach.wordpress.com

Meredith Turnbull is a visual artist, jeweller, curator and writer. Meredith’s work engages various scales, art historical traditions and artistic genres – and creates connections between images, jewellery, decorative objects and sculptural components through spatial practice. She completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Art History at La Trobe University in 2000 and a Bachelor of Fine Art at RMIT University in 2005. Meredith is also a lecturer in Art History at RMIT University specialising in C20th Craft and Design and Contemporary Art. Anna Varendorff's artistic practice includes the mediums of jewellery, sculpture and installation. Directly addressing the body, with object as both tool and partner, Varendorff directs specific focus towards the concerns of contemporary author jewellery from the intimate to the immersive. She completed her Masters of Fine Art at Monash University in 2015 and exhibits regularly as both a solo and a collaborative artist.
